This position is responsible for the design, development and maintenance of IS training environments and training curriculum, under the direction of an IS Applications Training Manager. The Principal Trainer works with IS management, Clinical Operations and Clinical Informatics to define training needs and uses a variety of educational media to design and develop state-of-the-art training programs for designated audiences.

I. Major Responsibilities:

1. Provides end-user training on applications supported by the IS Applications team.
2. Develops lesson plans and designs curriculum, training manuals, classroom exercises, competency assessments and tests, as well as online computer-based learning modules, in support of employee roles and job functions that use Epic and other IS application systems.
3. Participates in integrated application testing, simulations, and go-live activities, as needed.
4. Collaborates with analysts on application changes and new features to develop training strategies.
5. Administers proficiency assessments and class evaluations at the end of each training session and adjusts training content based on survey feedback.
6. Collaborates at all levels of organization to deliver customized curriculum to caregivers.
7. Provides training for new hires within the IS Applications Training department and coordinates training for new software releases and updates.
8. Identifies and implements opportunities for process improvement.
9. Escalates issues to the appropriate area(s) with detailed and accurate information.
10. Serves as a mentor to Credentialed Trainers.

II. Position Qualifications:
License/Certification/Education:

Required:
1. Associate’s degree.
2. Current Epic certification(s) or ability to achieve within one (1) year.

Preferred:
1. Bachelor’s degree.

Experience/Skills:
Required:
1. Two (2) years demonstrated experience facilitating classroom, virtual and one-on-one training.
2. Understands adult learning theory.
3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
4. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
5. Ability to perform a variety of complex duties ranging from direct involvement in individual processes to overseeing projects.
6. Proficiency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Preferred:
1. Experience in a healthcare or clinical setting.
2. Experience with medical records systems.

Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.

Department-specific competencies, including age-specific competencies and their measurements, will be developed and maintained in the individual departments. The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description. Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents.

III. Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions:

Work is considered sedentary. Position requires work indoors in a normal office environment.
