Our Culture: Why work with us?

Joining Outer Cape Health Services isn't just about taking on a new role; it's about embracing a mission that goes beyond the day-to-day. Here, you become part of a dedicated team committed to safeguarding and nurturing invaluable community health resources. Our ethos is built on creating a vibrant and inclusive workplace where every team member is valued and recognized for their unique contributions.

Who We Are :

Our mission is to provide a full range of primary health care and supportive social services that promote the health and well-being of all who live in or visit the ten outermost towns of Cape Cod.

OCHS now cares for more than 18,000 patients annually, and no one is denied access to services due to an inability to pay. Founded in 1987 through the merger of Health Associates of Provincetown (established in 1972) and the AIM Medical Center in Wellfleet (established in 1966), Outer Cape Health has a long history of successful growth and expansion in pursuit of this mission. As a Patient-Centered Medical Home, OCHS holds itself to the highest standards. Ensuring patients have access to care when they need it and request it, and validating that staff are working at the top of their licensures, are foundations of this model.

Our Core Competencies:

At Outer Cape Health Services, our core competencies are the foundation upon which our organization is built, guiding us in our mission to deliver exceptional health services to our communities. Finally, being patient-centered, we prioritize the needs and well-being of those we serve, striving to exceed expectations and make a meaningful difference in their lives.

A day in the life of this role:

Reporting to the Chief Strategy Officer, the IT Systems Engineer is responsible for maintaining and optimizing the IT systems that underpin our critical healthcare operations. This position will manage a hybrid environment that blends on-premises and cloud technologies, including Microsoft 365, Azure, Intune, and VMware/ESXi, while ensuring compliance with healthcare IT standards and regulations. This role requires attention to both high-level systems architecture and lower-level operational tasks, including OS patching, device management, and endpoint security. This is a hands-on position requiring both proactive system maintenance and reactive problem-solving to support uninterrupted healthcare delivery. The IT Systems Engineer will also collaborate across teams to enhance IT infrastructure, address security vulnerabilities, and ensure robust data management practices. This role is on-site but can work hybrid when needed.

  • Manage and maintain the organization’s hybrid IT environment, ensuring seamless integration between Microsoft 365, Azure cloud services, and on-premises VMware/ESXi infrastructure.
  • Perform regular system updates, including OS patching for Windows and Linux systems, to address security vulnerabilities and maintain system stability.
  • Monitor and optimize server performance, ensuring high availability and efficiency across virtualized environments.
  • Use Intune to deploy, configure, and secure endpoint devices, including desktops, laptops, and mobile devices.
  • Implement and enforce device compliance policies, such as encryption, remote wipe capabilities, and application restrictions.
  • Conduct routine inventory checks and lifecycle management for IT assets. Support basic network administration tasks, including troubleshooting connectivity issues and managing DHCP, DNS, and VPN configurations.
  • Implement routine security measures, such as antivirus updates, intrusion detection monitoring, and log file reviews.
  • Manage user identities and access controls using Active Directory and Azure AD, ensuring appropriate role-based access.
  • Conduct vulnerability scans and remediate identified risks, including patching software and hardening configurations.
  • Regularly test and validate backup systems to ensure recovery capabilities for critical systems and data.
  • Maintain and improve disaster recovery protocols to minimize downtime and data loss in the event of system failures.
  • Serve as a Tier 2/3 escalation point for complex technical issues, providing timely and effective resolution.
  • Develop and update user-facing documentation for IT systems, ensuring clear instructions on best practices.
  • Deliver training sessions to staff to enhance their understanding and use of IT tools securely and efficiently.
  • Ensure all systems and processes align with healthcare regulatory requirements, such as HIPAA and HITECH.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of IT systems, processes, and changes to support audits and internal reviews.
  • Generate system performance and security compliance reports, identifying areas for improvement.
  • Other duties as assigned

  • A high school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree in related field a plus.
  • 2+ years of IT experience maintaining technology infrastructure in a healthcare environment.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365, Azure cloud services, VMware/ESXi, and Intune. Competence in scripting (e.g., PowerShell) is highly beneficial.
  • Meticulous approach to system updates, patching, and monitoring to ensure a secure and stable IT environment.
