Job Summary

Across the healthcare industry nationwide, hospitals and health systems face challenges to today’s approaches to expense management, as revenue growth has not kept pace with expense growth. In response to these unprecedented external challenges, MGB launched Sustain in fall of 2023. Sustain is a new ongoing organization-wide program that works to build an infrastructure, culture, and mindset around continuous improvement, working to preserve our four-part mission through focus on resource stewardship. To do this, while also funding needed capital maintenance and improvements to deliver on world-class patient care, research, education, and community health, we must seek out innovative opportunities to optimize the way we work and manage resources across our organization.

The Sustain Analytics team is part of the Business Planning department, which also includes Decision Support and Business Analytics teams. The Business Analyst (Finance), on the Sustain Analytics team is responsible for completing a broad range of analytic, planning, benchmarking, and other operational support activities for one or more designated members of the Leadership Team (Senior VP’s, Clinical VP’s, Operating VP’s and Executive Directors), across the enterprise.

A critical measure of each Business Analyst’s success will be the extent to which the analytic and planning needs of each person supported are met in a timely, consistent, high quality manner. This will require close collaboration with staff within the clinical departments, and many other analytic, financial, and planning groups throughout the MGB enterprise, including Sustain Management Office (SMO), Business Planning, Financial Planning, Digital, and local financial, operational, and analytical teams and decision-making bodies at each of the MGB entities. An ability to synthesize, summarize and effectively communicate the analytic and planning work that is performed is key.

Primary Responsibilities:

Sustain

Provide the following analytic and planning evaluations for any initiatives within the supported MGB Sustain Core Teams (including, but not limited to: Workforce and Talent, Clinical Practice and Supply Utilization, Clinical Pharmacy, Non-Clinical Supplies and Purchased Services, Research, Digital, Real Estate, and Enterprise Asset Management):
-Assess data and analytic needs of an initiative, program, service, or clinical area for MGB Sustain
-Provide financial and analytic support to Sustain Core teams in support of impact identification, implemented opportunity measurement, and realization
-Serve as liasions to Financial Planning team, as well as local finance/budget teams across MGB entities in communicating financial and operational impact to budget and run rate
-Collaborate with various individuals from any operational, analytic, planning, or support departments and teams across MGB
-Provide any other ad hoc Sustain related financial, analytic, or business planning needs requested by MGB Senior Leadership team

Reporting and Dashboard Development and Maintenance

With support from manager, take inventory of reporting and dashboarding needs from stakeholders (Workforce Productivity team, MGB leadership, Affinity Group leadership, Perioperative/Procedural leadership, Sustain leadership, etc.).
-Develop robust reporting tools within technology systems, that can be downloaded and utilized directly out of the respective systems by senior level executives
-Collaborate with appropriate project teams and colleagues to develop dashboards with effective visualizations to summarize high level performance and illustrate effectively any areas of concern for operational and financial leadership teams
-Provide training, as appropriate, to individuals of various levels across the enterprise, regarding usage and interpretation of any developed reporting and dashboard resources
-Consolidate data from a various (and at times disparate) data sources, analyzing information and identifying trends critical to performance, communicating actionable insights for various audiences, and maintaining any ad hoc reporting as necessary

Financial and Operational Analysis:

Provide the following analytic and planning evaluations for any supported Senior Leaders or teams:
-Provide analytic support to Digital teams in support of information systems as appropriate
Assess the financial performance of existing programs, services, service lines, divisions, and departments.
-Analyze operational and financial data to evaluate performance, determine factors that may be influencing performance (macro and micro), and identify opportunities for improvement or intervention.
-Evaluate how changes may impact the enterprise, and various entities across MGB, both financially and operationally

Communication Activities

With support from manager, prepare concise, creative, professional summaries of analyses and plans for members of Senior Leadership and others, as appropriate. With support of manager, present findings to varying levels of staff, targeting the presentation towards the knowledge level and needs of the audience.


Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred.

  • 1+ years of related experience, preferably in finance, healthcare management, healthcare consulting in materials management or surgical profitability, data analytics and/or strategic planning.

Skills/Abilities/Competencies:

  • Comfortable with querying and manipulating large amounts of data and the ability to ensure data integrity using quality checks at various points in the process.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with all levels of the organization.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Good oral and written communication skills (Outlook and PowerPoint), including the ability to communicate analysis details to different individuals and audiences throughout the institution.

  • Understanding of financial concepts and terminology.

  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to work on multiple projects at once.

  • Ability to effectively respond to time sensitive issues and meet deadlines.
