Job Summary

Summary<br>Responsible for extracting knowledge and insights from data in order to investigate business/operational problems through a range of data preparation, modeling, analysis, and/or visualization techniques.<br><br>Does this position require Patient Care?<br>No<br><br>Essential Functions<br>-Collects, analyzes, and reports data to support decisions on day-to-day operations, strategic planning, and/or specific business performance issues. <br>
-Collates, models, interprets, and analyzes data. <br>
-Explains variances and trends in data. <br>
-Identifies and documents enhancements to modeling techniques. <br>
-Completes thorough quality assurance procedures, ensuring accuracy, reliability, trustworthiness, and validity of work. <br>
-Performs data validation of source-to-target data for data visuals and dashboards. <br>


Qualifications

Education
Bachelor's Degree Analysis required or Bachelor's Degree Related Field of Study required

Licenses and Credentials

Experience
Experience working with data, preferably healthcare data 2-3 years required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Healthcare knowledge, particularly as it pertains to electronic medical record data, is preferred but not required.
- Working knowledge of relational databases, SQL, data visualization, and Business Intelligence tools such as Tableau.
- Knowledge and application of statistical analyses, including variance analysis and statistical significance, are preferred.
- Project management skills and/or experience are a plus.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

The Medical Practice Evaluation Center (MPEC) is seeking a Database Design and Management Coordinator to work with an internationally recognized multidisciplinary team from Massachusetts General Hospital dedicated to improving clinical outcomes, increasing value in health policy, and informing global public health through innovative research, collaboration, and education. The hire will work with a dynamic, results-oriented, and diverse group of researchers from Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, and collaborators at multiple international institutions.

The Database Design and Management Coordinator will work with faculty and project managers in the Epidemiology and Implementation Program at MPEC. The Epidemiology and Implementation Program works to develop, implement, and evaluate interventions to improve engagement in and quality of medical care in the United States and international settings. Example projects include:

  • Determining the effects of HIV on aging and dementia in Uganda through a prospective longitudinal cohort study with comprehensive clinical, cognitive, and radiologic assessments
  • Elucidating the contributions of immunosuppression, vaccination, and therapies on the epidemiology and transmission of viral respiratory infections
  • Investigating the role of maternal HIV infection and co-infection with early childhood infections
  • Studying service delivery mechanisms for STI screening and prevention at the MGH Sexual Health Clinic in partnership with community organizations in the Boston area
  • Working with database managers in multiple global environments on database development, capacity building, and training

The candidate should be highly motivated with experience in database design and data management as well as clinical and public health research. The position offers a stimulating, collaborative, and multidisciplinary environment and the opportunity to contribute to NIH-funded research. The primary responsibilities of this individual will be to design, implement and manage relational databases, support data curation across research and programmatic data systems, lead data quality monitoring and control activities, create analytic datasets, and collaborate with data analysts, investigators, and collaborators on data analysis and interpretation for publication and dissemination of research findings. There are multiple possibilities for collaboration with other researchers in Boston, as well as with national and international research partners.
