Job Summary

The Manager, Digital Research Data plays a vital leadership role in advancing Mass General Brigham’s research mission by shaping the strategy, driving integration, and ensuring the operational delivery of enterprise research data platforms and services. This position serves as a key connector between researcher needs and technical and data solutions, ensuring that research systems, data models, and access pathways are aligned with organizational research priorities, compliance requirements, and the long-term data strategy.

Reporting to the Director, Research Data within the Digital Research Operations Team, the Manager leads a team of analysts and data professionals responsible for supporting and enhancing core research data platforms such as RPDR, PDSR, and emerging research data hubs. The position provides oversight for new data integrations, maintenance of data ontologies, and ongoing application support, ensuring reliable, secure, and scalable access to research data across the MGB research community.

The Manager is accountable for translating complex research and business requirements into actionable technical work, prioritizing initiatives based on research impact, feasibility, and strategic value. This includes allocating team resources, managing deliverables, and ensuring that enhancements and integrations meet defined service levels and researcher expectations. The role is essential in coordinating across Digital, cloud, analytics, and governance teams to enable compliant data access while accelerating discovery.

In addition to operational leadership, the Manager, Research Data contributes to the evolution of MGB’s research data ecosystem by supporting future state platform planning, improving intake and triage of data requests, and strengthening partnerships with investigators, product owners, and enterprise stakeholders. Through people leadership, process optimization, and data driven decision making, the role ensures that research data services remain responsive, sustainable, and aligned with institutional and regulatory standards.


Qualifications

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of analysts and data professionals responsible for supporting and enhancing core research data platforms such as RPDR, PDSR, and emerging research data hubs.
  • Oversee new data integrations, maintain data ontologies, and provide ongoing application support to ensure reliable, secure, and scalable research data access across the MGB research community.
  • Bridge the needs of researchers with technical and data solutions, ensuring research systems, data models, and access pathways align with organizational priorities, compliance requirements, and long-term data strategy.
  • Translate complex research and business requirements into actionable technical work, prioritizing initiatives based on research impact, feasibility, and strategic value.
  • Allocate team resources, manage deliverables, and ensure enhancements and integrations meet defined service levels and researcher expectations.
  • Coordinate with Digital, cloud, analytics, and governance teams to ensure compliant data access and accelerate discovery.
  • Support future-state platform planning, improve the intake and triage of data requests, and strengthen partnerships with investigators, product owners, and enterprise stakeholders.
  • Drive process optimization and data-driven decision-making to ensure research data services remain responsive, sustainable, and aligned with institutional and regulatory standards.
  • Mentor and guide business analysts through targeted performance feedback, skill development, and cross-training opportunities to foster professional growth and deliver valuable insights and solutions to the organization.

Required

  • Minimum of 6-8 years of relevant experience in business systems analysis or related roles in healthcare, research support, operations, or digital project management.
  • At least 4 years of experience managing direct reports or leading cross-functional teams.
  • Proficient leadership and management skills, with the ability to support, improve, and motivate a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organization, and to translate user needs into clear requirements.
  • Proficiency in relevant business tools and software. Knowledgeable in system design, build, testing, and implementation. Excellent analytic skills.
  • Knowledge of roadmap planning, user feedback integration, and support strategies for research-facing platforms.
  • Comfortable working across technical and non-technical stakeholders, including researchers, analysts, and product teams.
  • Demonstrated experience in a complex healthcare or academic research environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution required.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Directly manage up to five staff members within digital research data team.
  • Oversee performance management, staff development, and daily operations of the analytics team.
  • Recruit and retain qualified personnel, foster team collaboration, and address performance concerns as needed.
  • Provide coaching and mentorship to ensure professional growth and alignment with organizational goals.

  • M-F Eastern Business Hours Full Time required

  • Hybrid model includes in person onsite work at MGB local sites, weekly or monthly, to be determined based on business needs

  • Must be flexible for weekly or monthly in person stakeholder meetings, team meetings and internal customer needs

  • On remote workdays, employees must use a stable, secure, and compliant workstation in a quiet environment. Teams video is required and must be accessed using MGB-provided equipment
