Job Summary
The HIM Senior Manager will support and report to the Executive Director of HIM within the MGB Office of the Chief Medical Officer (OCMO). This individual will play a key role in strategically representing the HIM department throughout the organization by fostering collaboration and promoting data integrity. They will have primary responsibility for managing the HIM Department budget, managing vendor relationships and planning for capital expenses. The HIM Senior Manager, provides HIM subject matter expertise to all departments across MGB to ensure seamless integration of patient information in a compliant manner.

Bachelor's Degree Health Information Management required or Bachelor's Degree Healthcare Administration required or Bachelor's Degree Related Field of Study required

Experience
Experience in Health Information Management 5-7 years required and Experience in a management or leadership role 3-5 years required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strategically ensures compliance with all relevant and applicable laws, regulations, and contractual agreements across the business and operational areas.
- Analyze regulatory requirements, impacts, and required changes. Communicates current state of regulations impacting HIM at a federal and state level.
- Serves as HIM leader for MGB hospitals and sites, advising on site based HIM related matters including accreditation surveys.
- Manages patient opt-out of health information exchange, providing highest level customer service to our patients.
- Recommend standardized Health Information Management (HIM) practices to ensure consistent operations across all hospitals.
- Collaborate with other departments, such as IT, clinical departments, and administration, to ensure integration and exchange of health information across the healthcare organization.
- Develops and implements strategies to meet legal, business, and regulatory requirements for health information and health records which are maintained in a variety of formats and used for diagnosis, treatment, research, teaching, legal, planning and health care management purposes.
- Evaluate, monitor, and reduce the costs associated with paper records and forms thereby increasing the use of electronic heath record. Provide direction to site leaders to analyze information, evaluate documentation alternatives and troubleshoot problems in this area.
- Advise on all aspects of maintaining a legal health record including identity management, content, classification, amendment, preservation, media management and access.
- Advise and promote privacy within HIM when developing enhancements to the EHR, patient and physician portals and consent requirements for a consistent delivery of program strategy across the enterprise. This includes an organizational wide education and policy compliance.
- Collaborates with OCMO to ensure integrity of the patient health record while advancing organizational OCMO goals and EI-HRO principles.
- Plan and develop an annual HIM Operating and Capital budget with an eye toward improved efficiencies, standardization and realized cost savings.
- Assure annual and monthly budget accruals are submitted and reflect actual spend.
- Review monthly operating budget salary and expenses, actual vs. budget and adjust accordingly.
- Assure monthly vendor invoices are approved and paid timely.
- Review HIM Position Control report with HIM Senior Managers and adjust as necessary, including quarterly review with HIM Executive Director.
- Assist with the design and implement programs for warehousing, archiving and destruction in accordance with enterprise strategy and policies as well as State and Federal laws.
- Recommend non-MGB sites for integration to use the Mass General Brigham EHR. Direct the implementation efforts for effective transition of the designated patient data.
