Position Overview:
The Director of Decision Support is responsible for the operational and financial analytics as they pertain to all of Mass General Brigham’s (MGB) Revenue Cycle Operations (RCO) functions.

The incumbent provides a high level of administrative, financial, and analytic support to the RCO and its leadership teams. The position supports the data and analytical needs of a team comprised of almost 1,300 staff members. Primarily responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and reporting on the comprehensive range of informational needs of the revenue cycle teams, including but not limited to those related to billing, ambulatory, scheduling, financial, human resources, compensation, and contract compliance data sets. The Director is the lead for all hospital and professional billing reporting needs across Mass General Brigham.

The incumbent will both support the existing reporting tools in Epic as well as augment these tools though data extractions from Epic, which requires constant evaluation of very complex business needs to determine the appropriate tools, techniques, processes, and systems necessary to meet each need. This will most often require innovation in each of these areas to design and handle the development, implementation, maintenance, and training for new systems, metrics and reports that will ultimately be moved into production.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a key operational, administrative, and financial resource to all RCO teams
  • Provides subject matter expertise to Revenue Cycle departments from a reporting perspective.
  • Develop an overall strategy to address reporting and analytics needs across all revenue functions, programs, and initiatives. This will include the identification of the approach, tools, staff, metrics, as well as implementation.
  • Lead an analytical team which produces complex reporting and assists in analysis of the revenue cycle operations and leading and lagging financial indicators (such as AR Days, AR Aging, etc.) to improve performance across RCO.
  • Work with Revenue Cycle leadership and teams to build standard reports to monitor performance and key metrics across the enterprise Revenue Cycle Operations
  • Chair all relevant and appropriate committees within the organization's Revenue Cycle ecosystem and participate in all initiatives related to its reporting.
  • Responsible for billing/revenue-related ad hoc data requests for Enterprise. These reports may require extracting data from Epic and other internal databases.
  • Support Revenue Cycle departments, hospital leadership, and clinical practices with standardized reporting, analytics, and dashboards highlighting key areas for improvement.
  • Provide ad-hoc analytic support to revenue-cycle related requests using a variety of tools (e.g., Excel, Access, Epic, POLR, IPORT, Tableau, etc.). Package and present data for senior Finance leadership.
  • Support the creation of reports for review of P&L, margin, FTE, and relevant expense items, including feedback as appropriate related to +/- budget variances.
  • Actively participate in Revenue Cycle committees by providing key operational and financial support for all appropriate committees.
  • Assist in the preparation of key data presentations to department leadership; metrics will be both financial analysis and operational.
  • Act as Revenue Cycle SME (Subject Matter Experts) across MGB as it pertains to improving, upgrading, or replacing existing tools and capabilities.
  • Actively assists in other duties as assigned by either of the Department’s VPs.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred in Accounting, Finance, Information Systems, Business Management, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years in healthcare.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years in leading people.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of managerial experience in the areas of hospital finance, revenue cycle operations, or financial reporting in a large hospital system required.
  • Strong understanding of the functions and uses of database management systems with five or more years of experience working with large database management systems, preferably in a healthcare environment.
  • Previous experience with academic medical centers highly preferred.
  • Expert working knowledge of MS Access and SQL Server preferred; programming integration/automation with MS Word/Excel/Outlook; user interface and report design.
  • Experience with statistical software programs or visualization software such as Tableau preferred.
  • Understanding of the operations of billing systems (Epic or other EHR (Electronic Health Record)) preferred.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Direct Reports | Approximately 20.

Fiscal Responsibility:

  • The incumbent is responsible for managing the expense budgets of assigned staff and coordination of yearly department budget.
  • Demonstrates fiscal responsibility by effectively using Mass General Brigham resources.

Working Conditions:

This position is currently remote, though the individual may be required, on occasion, to travel into the office or Mass General Brigham sites due to business needs (travel will be reimbursed per MGB policy).
