Under the supervision of the Trauma Program Manager participates in the continuing development and on-going maintenance of the Trauma Registry. Requires discretion and judgement to organize priorities, complete tasks, and handle confidential patient information. This includes data abstraction, data entry and data completion for the trauma patient population. It also includes developing a proficiency with ICD 10 Coding, AIS/ISS and developing reports from the data entered into the Trauma Registry. He/she is also responsible for data submission/distribution/report preparation and generation to/for the appropriate parties within the designated time frame, as well as supporting performance improvement. Works collaboratively with the Trauma Program administrative team, other departments and health care providers within MGB Salem Hospital as well as the stake holders at the State and Regional level. |
Qualifications
Skills:
Required:
- Must demonstrate strong analytical skills; strong communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills; excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize requests and assignments. Self-directed with initiative to function independently as needed.
- Must be familiar with medical terminology and basic anatomy
- Must demonstrate proficiency in utilizing computers and with Microsoft Word and Excel
Preferred:
- Data Base Management experience, AIS/ISS, ICD-10 coding familiarity is highly recommended
- Data validation and maintenance of data integrity experience a plus
Experience:
Required:
- 2+ years of progressive health care experience
Preferred:
- Previous Registry/Report writing experience
- Experience with a strong emphasis on data integrity, analysis and validation
- At least 2 years of experience working with data management
Education/Degree Requirements
Required:
- Associate Degree in health related field
- Within the first year, must attend and pass the American Trauma Society's Trauma Registrar Course and the Association for the Advancement of Automotive Medicine AIS Coding Course.
Licensure, Certifications, or Registration:
Preferred:
- Certified Specialist in Trauma Registries (CSTR), ATS-ICD-10 Trauma injury coding course, ATS registry course, AAAM AIS coding course, Registered Health Information (RHIT), *CAISS certification (Certified Abbreviated injury Scale Specialist)
