Clinical Informaticist, MGB Solutions Delivery, Office of the CMIO

Reporting to the Brigham CMIO, The Clinical Informaticist serves as a liaison and builds collaborative relationships between informatics teams, clinicians, digital systems teams, and operational staff to ensure the optimum design/use of clinical software and workflows for patient safety, quality, patient experience, resource efficiency, clinician satisfaction and revenue capture. This position is responsible for enabling key business processes by analyzing and articulating current state workflows, identifying opportunities to optimize clinical workflows, identifying barriers, and developing solutions for optimization. This role requires a strong understanding of Epic, clinical operations, and governing policies/regulations. The Clinical Informaticist assumes responsibility and facilitates organization-wide efforts / change initiatives across disciplines and clinical departments as they relate to clinical software. The Clinical Informaticists maintain clinical knowledge by working closely with their clinical colleagues.

The Clinical Informaticist may provide onsite or phone support to operational users, thus there is an expectation that the role will require working days (primarily during regular business hours), with occasional evenings, nights and weekends as needed. This position works closely with multiple disciplines including support, training, Digital Systems, and Digital Health eCare (DHeC) for optimization of software, systems implementations, and upgrades.

The primary focus areas for this role are the emergency department and periprocedural departments for BWH and BWFH. Additionally, the Clinical Informaticist will be the main owner for the Digital response to quality and safety topics that may arise at BWH, working closely with area operational leaders as well as the BWH Dept of Quality and Safety. Others areas may be assigned at the discretion of the Brigham CMIO.

Additionally, the Clinical Informatician in this role will:

· Informatics Solution Development: Design, customize, and implement informatics solutions, such as electronic health records (EHRs), clinical decision support systems, and data analytics tools, to support safe and efficient periprocedural care delivery.

· Quality Improvement Initiatives: Lead and participate in quality improvement projects aimed at enhancing patient safety, reducing medical errors, and improving outcomes throughout the periprocedural continuum.

· Clinical Workflow Optimization: Evaluate existing periprocedural workflows and identify opportunities for optimization through the strategic application of informatics solutions, with a focus on streamlining processes and reducing redundancies

· Data Analysis and Reporting: Analyze clinical data to identify trends, patterns, and areas for improvement in periprocedural care quality and safety. Generate comprehensive reports and presentations to communicate findings to stakeholders and drive informed decision-making.

· Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Collaborate closely with healthcare professionals across various departments, including perioperative nursing staff, surgeons, anesthesiologists, quality assurance teams, and IT specialists, to ensure alignment of informatics initiatives with organizational goals and clinical priorities.

· Education and Training: Provide education and training to clinical staff on the effective use of informatics tools and technologies within the periprocedural setting, promoting user proficiency and adoption.

· Regulatory Compliance: Stay abreast of relevant regulations, standards, and best practices pertaining to healthcare informatics, patient safety, and quality improvement in the periprocedural domain. Ensure compliance with applicable requirements through proactive monitoring and implementation of necessary measures.

· Continuous Improvement: Continuously evaluate the effectiveness of informatics interventions and quality improvement efforts, soliciting feedback from stakeholders and refining strategies as needed to drive ongoing enhancements in periprocedural care delivery.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Degree in a health care profession (e.g. RN, DPT, PA, MD, NP, etc.) with clinical work experience is required.
  • Certification in clinical informatics is preferred.
  • 3-5 or more years’ experience in information services in healthcare is preferred.
