- DEFINITION/PRIMARY FUNCTION
- The Clinical Data Coordinator is responsible for data acquisition, analysis, storage and reporting for Performance Improvement and Quality Management for Berkshire Medical Center. The Clinical Data Coordinator performs concurrent and retrospective medical record review and criteria-based data analysis to determine trends in inaccurate or missing documentation or failure to meet specified core measure criteria-based requirements for clinical care. Abstracts medical records, codes for specified data elements and enters into the appropriate clinical database, e.g. Midas+, CMS, The Joint Commission, The American Heart Association (Outcomes, NCDR), MassPRO and SCORE (Stroke Collaborative Reaching for Excellence). The Clinical Data Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the integrity of assigned clinical databases and accuracy and timeliness of reporting. This position also provides data pre-analysis, input and guidance through participation in daily clinical multidisciplinary rounds geared toward implementation of interventions during concurrent review. Assists in the preparation of graphic display and power point data presentations for internal and external groups such as Task Force Committees, Clinical and Service Excellence, Quality Management, Value Council and various payers. The Clinical Data Coordinator is responsible to assist in preparation for surveys such as JCAHO. Data accuracy and completeness of the Clinical Data Coordinator directly effects potential reimbursement for Berkshire Medical Center.

- POSITION QUALIFICATIONS (Minimum qualifications are required unless stated otherwise.)
- Experience:
- One year of clinical experience in a healthcare setting such as medical assistant, coder, clinical technical position, certified nursing assistant or licensed professional preferred. Data abstraction and management.
- Two years computer experience and familiarization with various databases such as Excel and Access, Microsoft Word, Power Point required. Meditech and Midas preferred.

- Education and Training:
- BS in a healthcare related field, business or mathematics preferred. Experience in statistical analysis.
- Completion of a medical terminology course, coding or relevant experience.
- Training in medical coding.
- Progressive course work in computers and office administration. Knowledge of Word, Excel, Access, Powerpoint or other related software and databases. Midas and Meditech preferred.

- License, Certification & Registration:
- Coding Certification preferred.

- Proficient in medical terminology.
- Proficient in medical record concurrent and retrospective review.
- Knowledgeable of applicable policies and procedures.
- Knowledgeable about JCAHO standards and regulatory or payor requirements related to documentation.
- Well-developed command of the English language.
- Organizational skills and ability to prioritize duties and requests while maintaining flexibility.
- Knowledgeable of statistics.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills.
- Ability to present information verbally and via computer presentation.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment in making appropriate decisions concerning work methods.
